ABOUT AL HAADI ACADEMY :

Al Haadi Academy is a private Islamic elementary school that puts its students first. Based in the City of Toronto (120 Bermondsey Rd, North York, ON M4A 1X5),we specialize in offering an enhanced Ontario curriculum and a safe, inclusive Islamic environment that centers the teachings of the Holy Quran and the Prophet and his Progeny (PBUT) from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. JOB SUMMARY :

Al Haadi Academy is seeking professional, enthusiastic individuals to fill general and subject-specific teaching vacancies at the Academy. As a teacher you’ll be responsible for planning lessons based on the Ontario educational curriculum, delivering lessons to students online and in-person, and helping students excel academically. The ideal candidates should have prior teaching experience, be highly organized and have excellent communication, technical, and interpersonal skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a teacher at the Academy, you will be responsible for the following:

1. Curriculum Delivery:

  • Plan engaging weekly lessons on subject-specific topics in accordance the learning objectives outlined in the Ontario curriculum and reflective of Islamic values, principles, heritage and occasions.
  • Instruct students on specific subject-matter (i.e. Science, Social Studies, etc.) in traditional and innovative ways via in-person and online mediums (i.e. Google Classrooms).
  • Prepare/source and distribute learning materials and homework that enable students to meet learning objectives in the Ontario curriculum.
  • Create a safe and enjoyable learning environment that promotes Islamic values and is conducive to student growth and learning.
  • Grade the performance of students via assignments, quizzes, and tests in a timely manner and provide helpful feedback for improvement.
  • Document, record, and report on students’ progress through mid-term reports and report cards.
  • Provide extra resources, support, and development opportunities for students to promote academic achievement.

2. Additional Duties:

  • Attend regular staff meetings and hold meetings with parents, as necessary.
  • Advise parents of their child’s progress and provide helpful tips for improvement.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff to plan and implement school events to mark Islamic days of Significance, as well as field trips and school outings.
  • Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, and harassment) to the school principal.
  • Monitor students in a variety of educational environments when asked (e.g., classroom, cafeteria, playground, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning.
  • Stay up to date on the latest modes of teaching methodologies and developments and trends in the Ontario curriculum.

Hours:
Approximately 31 hours/week (6.5 hours/day), 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) from 8:30 am to 3:10pm, starting September 2022.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience

  • University Degree or equivalent combination of education and teaching experience.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience working with and/or teaching elementary school-aged children.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Fluency in English (Both verbal and written).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work with children.
  • Highly organized and strong time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt, multi-task and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to be reliable, dedicated, and punctual.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and work well independently.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint,) and the Internet.
