Student Support
Overview
Al Haadi Academy’s general curriculum follows the guidelines and expectations of Ontario’s Ministry of Education, and emphasizes critical thinking & problem solving; communication & collaboration; and creativity & innovation. We teach all subject areas, including language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, French, physical education, and the arts. Our students excel in all areas when they graduate from the Academy.
We work hard to provide our students with varied opportunities that allow them to consolidate their learning. Teachers develop additional learning activities at all levels to provide challenges for students, which include year-round field trips and in-school presentations that complement our rich curriculum.
Our class capacity is purposefully small, so that we can deeply know each student, help them thrive emotionally and socially, and support their individual path to excellence.
Teachers are some of the most important people in your children’s lives. They give children purpose, set them up for success as citizens of our world, and inspire in them a drive to do well and succeed in life. Therefore, we take great care in selecting teachers who not only have knowledge and experience in the field of education but also embody Islamic characteristics.
Our teachers are professional, dedicated, and innovative. They care about the children, and the children care about them. Our instructors all hold degree from some of the finest universities and institutions in Canada and other countries. However, this is not the only qualification that makes our teachers what they are. It is their dedication to the Islamic lifestyle that makes them much more: role models
Student support
At Alhaadi Academy, we are pleased to offer a variety of services to meet our students’ learning, social and emotional needs. Our aim is to create a supportive and positive environment for all learners. We provide school-wide, classroom, small group, and individual assistance to students—meeting them where they are and journeying with them to reach their potential.
At the Academy, we are committed to the development of every student, the whole child, the learner, and the school citizen. We work to ensure that our students have the support they require that involves close collaboration with parents. All resource support is provided by our qualified teachers.
Learning Skills: we identify your child’s strengths and help support their emerging skills through individual support and classroom groupings. Support is for all students those having trouble with specific functions or concepts as well as those exceeding grade-level expectations.
Specific areas of support include Phonics, Reading Decoding, Fluency, Comprehension, Math Concepts and Computations, Writing Skills, and Handwriting.
- Early Identification – In kindergarten, we conduct in class assessments to explore the variety of developmental stages and learning styles, to identify potential learning difficulties as early as possible and to support remediation as needed.
- Assessment: we conduct formal assessments for all new students Gr 1to 8 joining our school to identify any learning gaps and evaluate the academic level of students. Results of the assessments are then used to determine the effective strategies to be used to close any learning gaps and plan the style of teaching required for different students.
- Intensive English Reading Support – Reading coaches and Reading buddies with Grade 1-2-3-&4 students who need that extra “push” to develop their emerging skills as readers.
- In-Class Academic Support in General Studies – In all general studies classes (grades 2-8) , we offer support to students who benefit from small-group instruction and more individualized attention.
- Arabic Language Support – Available to all students in grades 1-5; emphasis in grades 1-2 on acquiring basic language skills; extra support in grades 3-5 in Arabic language and Quran.
- Quran Teachings – extra support to bolster students’ Quran recitation skills.
Academic Support
Support is available in ESL (English as a second language), Math and other subjects to new students coming into the school.
Counselling
We are working on procuring frequent visits of a qualified social worker to develop students’ social and emotional skills. The social worker will also be available for individual and parental consultation.
