Junior Division
Program Overview
Our junior division program (Grade1-5) is designed to address what students should know and understand by the time they move on from one grade to the next in their academic journey through Islamic-based education. Our junior division is a dynamic child-centred learning environment with a challenging and exciting program that offers a variety of academic and non-academic subjects. Students develop close relationships with their homeroom teachers, and benefit from the expertise of specialists in Islamic studies, Arts, physical education, French, Arabic and Quran.
Teachers ‘ instructions across grades and in all subjects are delivered through reading passages, manipulatives, videos, animations, and Multimedia interactive activities to not only teach, but review concepts. We also offer customized learning plans to meet our student’s educational needs.
Our activities promote 21st century skill building, including critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. Although our expectations align with the Ontario curriculum, we offer rigorous and more advanced content in every subject. We also measure and track our students’ performance throughout the year with reporting tools, series of assessments and exams for higher grades (7-8).
We build responsibility, collaboration, and social-emotional learning into each grade level, so that children increase their independence, confidence, and leadership abilities over time.
Our classroom teachers focus on the core foundational subjects:

Our Math Curriculum
Our math curriculum aims to develop critical thinking and problem solving from early years (first grade onwards). One of the most important objectives of our math curriculum is to encourage students to develop a positive attitude towards mathematics, understand how to use mathematics in their everyday lives and appreciate the functionality of mathematics. So, when our students are presented with a problem or situation, they are taught to identify the proper strategies needed to come to conclusions and carry out calculations. By the end of eighth grade, our students would have acquired excellent computational skills, developed creativity and an ability to think, communicate and solve problems.
The mathematics program caters to each student according to his/her ability; students who need reinforcement in basic computational skills can get additional help, while students who show an aptitude for higher level mathematics are given advanced instruction.
Our English Program
Our English program strives to provide students with a stimulating, varied, and advanced English curriculum.
Students have the opportunity to read a range of texts suitable to their age and ability, write using the variety of assorted styles and genres of writing presented to them, and perform in both formal and informal settings. Reading is an important aspect of English education at our school, and we strive to create a culture of reading for pleasure. Our weekly (take a book home) for our junior division, novel studies for our senior division, and Reading buddies throughout the year help students enjoy and appreciate different components of the English language. A Spelling Bee competition is also conducted annually to spark a love of language in our students.
Our Science Program
Our science curriculum is designed to encourage students at all grades to develop a critical sense of wonder and curiosity about scientific and technological endeavours and enable students to use science and technology to acquire new knowledge and solve problems, so that they may improve the quality of their own lives and the lives of others. Science classes are centered around the creative process. Experiments and labs keep students guessing, trying, and learning.
Our Social Studies Program
Our social studies curriculum focuses on the impact of historical and contemporary events to help our students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to actively participate in their local and global communities. We aim to cultivate responsible, active citizens by helping our students think about who they are, where they come from, and the world they live. We prepare our students to be informed global citizens who apply their knowledge of political and social structures, in light of Islamic principles, and make positive and impactful contributions to society.
Our Art Classes
We offer weekly creative art classes to help students unleash their creativity through fun-based projects within an Islamic framework.
Our Islamic Studies & Quran Program
Our Islamic studies classes are designed to assist young students in developing spiritually and morally, taking pride in their Muslim identity, and achieving a mentally and emotionally-stable personality that is the essence of our deen (religion). Students are taught a common set of ethics based on the Qur’an and the sunnah of our prophet(pbuh), Ahlulbayt (a.s) and our Imams(as), and Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).
Our Quran curriculum is designed to help students recite Qur’anic verses at an incredibly early age and improve their recitation and tajweed skills at the higher levels as well as help them develop a close relationship with the Quran. Students are encouraged to participate in Quranic competitions that we run annually.
Our Arabic and French Program
Our Arabic and French curriculum aim to assist students in learning the fundamentals of both languages. This includes Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.
Our Physical Education Program
Our physical education curriculum aims to emphasize the importance of healthy lifestyles and good nutritional habits while fostering team-building skills by engaging students in group work activities.
Our Computer Studies Program
The fundamental purpose of our computer studies program is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will enable them to achieve success in secondary school, the workplace, postsecondary education or training, and daily life.
Our program relies on theme-based units that integrate technology from multiple subject areas. This integration enables us to meet all curricular expectations in a way that is meaningful and relevant to our students and makes the environment fun and stimulating.
Extra-Curriculars
All of our students have the opportunity to take to the stage and present to their parents and peers as part of special Islamic and school celebrations that incorporate Nasheed, public speaking, and drama.
The Academy also takes students on curriculum-related field trips and special outings that are carefully planned to expose students to history, science, art, and multicultural themes.
Our students participate in a “Spelling Bee” competition and a Quran recital that are held every year.
Character Building is an integral part of our Junior and Senior division programs, and it is embedded in all aspects of our daily school life. At the academy we strive to support our students in developing the right attitudes, Islamic values, and proper Islamic manners such as respect, truthfulness, sincerity, forgiving others, grit, self-control, self-awareness, empathy, and integrity. These attitudes and Islamic values give students the ability not only to face but to embrace life challenges.
At the academy we create opportunities for our students as they grow and mature, and develop their social and leadership skills. Beginning in Grade 4, students become ‘Reading Buddies’ – reading with partners in younger classes.
At Al-Haadi Academy, the elementary years are an exciting time for any child. The same young children who enter first grade just learning to read, explore new concepts and to negotiate social interactions in a formal educational setting graduate to the Senior Division fully prepared academically and socially for a fulfilling middle school experience.
